With the exemplary commitment of task
force leaders and volunteers, the Gandhi King Season for Nonviolence
(SNV), January 30- April 4, 1998-2007, achieved a decade of
success through a 64 day educational, media and grassroots
campaign inspired by the 50th and 30th memorial anniversaries of
Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

COST
The Seasons for Peace and Nonviolence (SPAN) campaign continues into
the next decade with a year-round series of offerings coordinated by
PEACEPORT OFFICES in centers and organizations worldwide. (ADD: For
Example – Dallas will launch its 2008 “Season” with a benefit concert,
Friday, (Date), 2008 at 8pm at the Episcopal Church of Transfiguration,
located at Hillcrest and Spring Valley Roads.)
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT SNV
A Season for Nonviolence was co-founded in 1998 by Arun Gandhi of the
M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence and the Leadership Council of The
Association for Global New Thought. The purpose of the campaign is to
focus educational and media attention on the philosophy of attaining
peace through nonviolent action as demonstrated by Gandhi and King.
Launched each year since 1998 at the United Nations, annual Season
events have been hosted in more than 400 cities in 18 countries,
receiving endorsements and commitments from the following world leaders:
The United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan; the U.S. Ambassador
to India; Vice President Al Gore; the Director General of UNESCO on
behalf of its Culture of Peace and Nonviolence appeal by the Nobel
Peace Laureates (language officially added as a result of the SNV
inaugural year). Other notable Season speakers have included Jesse
Jackson, Dr. C.T. Vivian, and Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne of Sri Lanka. The
Season has received written support of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama of
Tibet; the late Coretta Scott King; Dr. Robert Muller; and other
distinguished individuals from virtually all sectors of the world
leadership community.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS ABOUT YOUR EVENT
(For example – Steve Cummings of WBAP Radio will Emcee the Seasons for
Peace and Nonviolence Benefit Concert. The Turtle Creek Chorale
the Woman’s Chorus and singer-pianist Michael Gott will perform.
Reverend Petra Weldes, co-chair of the Dallas SPAN Task Force and
senior Minister for Center for Spiritual Living will give a
presentation on the Season. Suggested donation for the concert is
$15. Proceeds will implement the Season’s programs, including
Nonviolence Communications Training at the Episcopal Church of the
Transfiguration, (Date) and bring Mahatma Gandhi’s grandson, Dr. Arun
Gandhi, founder of the Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence to Dallas on
(Date). Gandhi will speak at various schools and public events.)
